Possible contribution of olefins and heteroatoms to the Unidentified Infrared Bands

چکیده
An abstract should be given he current assignments of the 11.3-μm feature are dicussed. An unbiased survey of correlation charts suggests that the olefinic group R2C=CH2 is a good alternative candidate. For the 12.7-μm feature, the best fits are provided by nitrites, R-O-N=O, and amines, R-N=H2. Sulfones, SO2, exhibit strong features near 7.7 and 8.6 μm, which may contribute to the UIBs. These additional functional groups are likely to be attached to the main hydrocarbon dust skeleton previously hypothesized.

A new Unidentified Far Infrared Band in NGC 7027
We report on the detection of a molecular band centered at ∼98 μm (∼102 cm), observed with the Infrared Space Observatory in the young Planetary Nebula NGC 7027. The band structure and intensity can not be reproduced by atomic fine structure lines, recombination lines or by the rotational emission of abundant molecules. We discuss the possible contribution of the low–energy bending modes of pur...
متن کاملSingle-photon Infrared Emission Spectroscopy of Gaseous Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Cations: a Direct Test for Proposed Carriers of the Unidentified Infrared Emission Bands
We describe the measurement of infrared emission from excited gas-phase polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) cations by an electron-impact ion beam reflectron system coupled to our ‘‘ single-photon infrared emission ’’ (SPIRE) spectrometer. This experiment provides for direct comparison of laboratory infrared emission spectra of gaseous ionized PAHs with the ‘‘ unidentified infrared emission...
متن کاملInfrared spectra of protonated coronene and its neutral counterpart in solid parahydrogen: implications for unidentified interstellar infrared emission bands.
Large protonated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (H(+) PAHs) are possible carriers of unidentified infrared (UIR) emission bands from interstellar objects, but the characterization of infrared (IR) spectra of large H(+) PAHs in the laboratory is challenging. IR absorption spectra of protonated coronene (1-C24 H13 (+) ) and mono-hydrogenated coronene (1-C24 H13 (.) ), which were produced upon e...
متن کاملSingle photon infrared emission spectroscopy of the gas phase pyrene cation: support for a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon origin of the unidentified infrared emission bands.
We report the first observation of infrared emission from a gaseous ionic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), the pyrene cation, over the range of wavelengths spanned by the ubiquitous interstellar unidentified infrared emission bands (UIRs). The complete set of pyrene cation IR emissions is observed, with relative intensities consistent with astrophysical observations, supporting the propos...

We describe the design and performance of an electron-impact ion beam reflectron system coupled to our ‘‘single-photon infrared emission spectrometer’’ for measurement of infrared emission from excited gas-phase polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon ~PAH! cations. This experiment provides for direct comparison of laboratory infrared emission spectra of gaseous ionized PAHs with the ‘‘unidentified inf...
